Zambian Super League giants, ZESCO United,
Red Arrows and Zanaco Football Club have partnered in organizing a Four-Club
tournament scheduled for the Copperbelt province.
The tournament, which is to be played between August 5, 2023, to August 7, 2023, will see Luanshya’s Kafubu stadium host Saturday and Sunday fixtures while the Levy Mwanawasa stadium is expected to stage games to be played on Monday.
Meanwhile Choma based league side, Green Eagles completes the pack of Zambian elite teams that will be using the competition as part of preparations for the 2023/24 Zambian Super League season.
The Four Club tournament will be played on a round-robin format with all four teams to play each other to decide the champion of the competition.
Announcing the development, ZESCO United Chief Executive Officer, Charles Kalala says the tournament is an important initiative which will benefit all the participating teams ahead of the 2023/24 football season which kicks-off on 19 August 2023.
‘This is a very important tournament for all the stakeholders involved. The season ahead will be very competitive with the Zambian teams aiming to get back to continental football next season. As such this tournament provides the best platform for teams to assess themselves in readiness for the upcoming football season’
‘We wish to thank management at the three Zambian clubs for coming on board and committing to ensuring that this tournament is a success,’ Kalala said.
And Red Arrows Chief Executive Officer LT. Col. Bruce Milunga says the tournament is part of the club’s pre-season preparations.
‘This is an opportunity for the four clubs involved to assess their readiness for the coming league season. I wish to encourage our fans to turn-up in numbers and cheer their teams in this four-day tournament.
Meanwhile, Zanaco FC Chief Executive Officer Modest Hamalabbi said: ‘We are happy to be taking part in this tournament as it is very important to all the clubs involved. It will help our coach to test the new players that we have acquired for the coming season. It will also help us get ready for the 2023/2024 season.’
