Zanaco FC recorded a 2–0 victory against Mines United in a Weekday Premier League fixture played at Sunset Stadium, marking a return to winning ways after a four-match winless run.
The home side took the lead in the 17th minute when Araina Lambert headed in from close range after receiving a well-delivered cross from Robert Saizi.
Zanaco maintained control of possession for the remainder of the first half but went into the interval with a single-goal advantage.
Zanaco extended their lead four minutes into the second half. Brian Kabika was fouled inside the penalty area, and Dominic Kanda converted from the penalty spot in the 49th minute to make it 2–0.

Mines United made attempts to reduce the deficit, but Zanaco remained defensively organized and managed the remainder of the match effectively to secure a clean sheet and maximum points.
In a post-match interview, Zanaco head coach Mumamba Numba described the result as a crucial turning point for his squad’s mentality.
“It is a very big motivation on our part, looking at where we are coming from after losing four games. “That run affected our confidence levels, but getting a victory today will definitely boost our morale.” Numba said.
The outcome of the match confirms Mines United’s relegation from the Premier League, while Zanaco move up to sixth position on the league standings.
Zanaco will next face second-placed Red Arrows in a Lusaka Wednesday derby scheduled to be played at Sunset Stadium.
