Zanaco Football Club is deeply saddened by passing of Hillary Makasa and Rixie Mweemba. Makasa played for the national team and was part of the squad that minted bronze at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations. Mweemba was FIFA referee instructor who also served as Vice President of the Football Association of Zambia.
“As a Club we are pained at the demise of these two fine sons of the soil who contributed immensely to Zambia’s football,” Zanaco General Manager, Marlon Kananda said.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families, FAZ and the entire footballing community. May God grant all of us strength even as we pray that the souls of these faithfully departed rest in eternal peace,” Kananda added.
Makasa died on 5th October at the University Teaching Hospital, while Mweemba died on 6th October at Coptic Hospital.
May their souls rest in peace.
