Zanaco Football Club suffered a 2-3 defeat to Konkola Blades in Week Two of the MTN Super League Transitional League Stream A at Sunset Stadium on Sunday, 11 October 2026.
Zanaco fell behind in the 16th minute when Clive Biyeta found the back of the net for Konkola Blades following an attacking move, giving the visitors an early lead.
Zanaco made an early substitution in the 26th minute, bringing on Dominic Kanda for Gift Kapambwe in search of a response.
The Bankers drew level in the 30th minute after Joseph Kiala was fouled inside the penalty area. Kanda stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to make it 1-1.
Zanaco continued to push forward and took the lead just before half-time when David Bulaya delivered a well-placed cross for Lambert Araina, who finished superbly to put the hosts ahead 2-1 at the break.
However, Konkola Blades restored parity just two minutes into the second half after Tinkler Sinkala handled the ball inside the box. Former Zanaco player Boyd Musonda, who was introduced at half-time, converted the resulting penalty in the 47th minute to make it 2-2.
The visitors regained the lead in the 65th minute through Jackson Phiri, who capitalised on a goalkeeping error by Jeban Tembo to put Konkola Blades 3-2 ahead.
Zanaco responded with a double substitution in the 67th minute, introducing Williams Abor Obande for Lambert Araina and Chanda Mukuka for Idana Chimwemwe.
The Bankers’ task became more difficult in the 75th minute when Kanda was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, having been booked in the 55th minute. Sinkala was also cautioned in the 73rd minute.
Zanaco made their final substitution in the 80th minute, with Ange Sama Luzeka replacing Francis Banda, as the hosts searched for an equaliser. However, Konkola Blades held on to secure all three points.
Speaking after the match, Zanaco head coach Mumamba Numba expressed disappointment with the result, pointing to his side’s lack of urgency, aggression and poor game management.
“It is a disappointing result. We conceded an early goal, we responded quickly and went ahead but unfortunately we conceded another early goal in the second half. The red card unsettled us. Konkola had more numbers in midfield and they outsmarted us.
“The team did not play to expectation today. We lacked urgency and aggression. If you look at the goals we conceded, we were not tracking our men. We need to pull up our socks and work on the mistakes,” Numba said.
Zanaco will now turn their attention to their next MTN Super League Transitional League fixture against NAPSA Stars on Sunday, as the Bankers look to bounce back from the defeat and return to winning ways.
