A thrilling Lusaka derby awaits as Sensational Zanaco prepare to face National League outfits Kafue Celtic in a high-stakes Round of 16 clash in the ABSA Cup, a match both camps have described as tricky, competitive and entertaining.
Speaking after the draw in Lusaka, Zanaco head coach Mumamba Numba maintained that while Kafue Celtic are a decent side, his team’s focus will be firmly on doing competing and proceed to the next round.
“It is not a team to underrate. We just have to make sure that we prepare properly so that the team is ready to play and win against Kafue Celtic,” Numba said.
The match is slated for 4/5 April, 2026 at Nkoloma stadium with winners proceeding to the quater finals of the tournament.
Numba emphasized that Zanaco will aim to progress deep into the tournament and ultimately reach the final.
He also expressed excitement about the club’s return to the competition after missing five editions, with their last appearance coming in 2019.
“I am very excited to be back in the Absa competition. As Zanaco, we are expected to participate year in and year out in the tournament,” he added.
With the winners earning qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup, the coach described the tournament as a significant opportunity for clubs seeking continental exposure.
Starting this edition, Absa Cup champions will automatically secure a Confederation Cup slot, while league winners will compete in the CAF Champions League.
If one team wins both competitions, the Cup runners-up will take the Champions League spot.
Team captain, Wilson Chisala echoed the coach’s confidence, stating that despite the expected pressure of a derby, Zanaco are ready for the challenge.
“Every game comes with its own pressure. It is going to be difficult, but we are ready,” Chisala said.
Meanwhile, Kafue Celtic head coach Carlos Sinyangwe described the encounter as one likely to be competitive and entertaining. However, history slightly favours Zanaco, who won the last competitive meeting between the two sides 1–0 in 2022.
Having lifted the Absa Cup once before in 2017, Zanaco will be confident of progressing and adding a second title to their cabinet.
