Briefly
Hastings qualified in 1984 and became a Fellow in 1990. He also holds an LLB (Credit) from the University of Zambia which he obtained in 2004. He has many years of experience in the accounting profession; 8 of which were with Coopers and Lybrand; 27 with KPMG; whilst the last 7 years have been with the newly formed partnership of MPH Chartered Accountants whose focus is service to the SME sector.

Hastings has gained broad experience as outlined above. His specialty in relation to external boards is financial expertise; audit and risk; and corporate governance. In this regard-corporate governance- he provides support to the Secretarial office of all external boards that he sits on. In relation to internal boards, Hastings provided leadership to KPMG during his tenure such that it is up to now a well recognised firm in the market place.
Local Professional involvement
Hastings is an active member of the institute the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA). He has served as chairman of the Disciplinary committee. He is a regular contributor to ZICA in respect of major statutory legislative developments affecting the profession. He participates in training and workshops either as an attendee or service provider. He is chairman of the Advocacy Committee of ACCA Zambia, chairman of the local SME committee and has sat on ACCA’s Global SME forum since 2013 to date.

Completed an Investment Advisors and Stockbrokers course and awarded certificate in Jul 2017.
Current interests
His current interest is empowering SME’s hence the formation of MPH Chartered Accountants with a special focus on service to SMEs. In this regard, he has built up an extensive network in the government and public sector aimed at promoting SME interests. He has a passion for promoting accountability and recognition of the importance of SMEs in the development of emerging economies.
Association with Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE)
He is a registered with LuSE as a business advisor for the LuSE Alternative market, known as LuSE Alt M, which focuses on SMEs.
Achievements
Awarded The Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014 certificate in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of the Accountancy profession in Zambia by the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and the Institute of Directors (IoD).
Awarded ZICA Presidents Award 2017 certificate for contribution to the development of the Accountancy profession in Zambia.
Training Exposure
Firm experience
As Senior Partner Hastings was responsible for Ethics training based on internal manual Codes and IFAC code. This was done annually as per requirement of the firm policy and each staff member was required to sign off that they had completed the required number of hours training required. For this purpose Hastings is an accredited trainer. He has over 20 years’ experience in this regard.
Professional experience
Hastings is called upon by ZICA from time to time to provide lectures to post graduate students on Ethics based on IFAC regulations and codes. He has over 15 years in this respect.

This is examined based on exams prepared by Hastings and marked by him. He has been doing this for the last 2 years.
St Dominic’s College
Hastings runs a course for students training to become priests in their final year called Finance for Parish Administrators the Course objective is to assist graduates understand the financial framework in a Parish and to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills intended to help them run finances within a Parish.

The course is run over a 3 month period and exams are set and marked by Hastings.
